REQUIREMENTS:

Skills and Abilities required:

  • High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED)

  • Must provide Criminal History background check and fingerprinting 

  • Knowledge of office machines and equipment 

  • Computer skills, typing, and organization

  • Ability to cooperate in a team effort with other employees 

  • Be self- motivated, able to work on several projects concomitantly 

  • Be able to follow instructions and follow through on assignments given by several staff members 

  • Be able to protect the confidentiality of information pertaining to students, staff and program matters as appropriate 

  • Ability to exercise initiative and sound judgment 

  • Ability to react resourcefully to varying conditions 

  • Courteous attitude, even disposition, patience and knowledge of telephone etiquette 

  • Good computer and organizational skills required 

    DESCRIPTION:

Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

Applicants or persons employed in this position must be able to perform the following tasks and functions which are fundamental to the purpose of the position. 

  • Assist the Library Media Specialist (direct supervisor) in the operation of the Library Media Center that is fun, inviting, safe, flexible, collaborative, inclusive, and conducive to learning

  • Process books and materials for shelving

  • Read and share literature with students

  • Maintain patron, item, and circulation information in Follett Library/Resource manager

  • Learn and use digital systems such as Follett, Google Workspace, for Education, Seesaw, Accelerated Reader, etc as needed

  • Perform general clerical duties such as typing, compiling statistics and assisting with financial records, maintaining files, answering phones, tracking inventory, communications with teachers, labeling, shelving, mending and maintaining the collection, etc

  • Assist with book fairs, class activities, technology needs, and other activities as directed by the LMS

  • Empowers all members of the learning community to become critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, skillful researchers, curators, and ethical users of information

  • Champions equity, access, and intellectual freedom for users within the physical and beyond, including providing 24/7 access to the online library catalog; digital and audio books; and various information resources

  • Supports learners' success by guiding them to read for understanding, breadth, and pleasure

  • Models and champions digital citizenship and safety and adherence to copyright and fair use requirements

  • Models and develops a commitment to respect equity, diversity, and inclusion in collection development and within the learning community

  • Supports learners as they make meaning for themselves to create new knowledge by collecting, organizing, and sharing resources of personal relevance

  • Supports the school's and the school library's mission, strategic plan, and policies

While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to communicate on the telephone. Must be able to get around the library/media center, locate and retrieve or shelve books or materials. There is constant standing and walking; frequent bending/stooping, squatting/crouching, and reaching above the shoulder to shelve books and to stand on step ladder/stool. There is occasional carrying and lifting of up to 50 pounds to receive and handle book orders, moving damaged equipment, lifting and moving audio-visual equipment and moving library furniture.
